About Septic Install Cost Calculator

An independent website that shows what homeowners reported paying to add or replace a septic tank, so that you can judge a quote against real jobs, and the smallest septic tank each state's rules allow.

Where the numbers come from

Our cost figures come from the public use files of the American Housing Survey (U.S. Census Bureau, for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development), adjusted to 2026 prices with the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis price index for home improvements. They are not modeled, and none is taken from another cost website. Methodology ยท Data source

Our tank sizes are the states' own regulations, each with its rule number and a link to the state's text. The rules

What the site is for, and what it is not

It shows what the job cost other homeowners in homes and regions like yours, and where a quote falls among those jobs. It cannot price your job: the survey does not record the size of the tank, the type of system or the soil.
